The Beach Hotel

Our Bridge weekends are normally staffed by five people (Rosemary Fellows, Graham Hudson, Annette Roberts and Directors Chas & Roger Fellows) dedicated to giving you an enjoyable break.   Typically, there will be about 15 to 18 tables in play – a level we try to maintain to ensure a good atmosphere without it becoming too big and impersonal.   We rely heavily on returning customers, many of whom have been attending regularly since we started way back in 1988.   Prizes and County level EBU Master Points are awarded for all events.

We have been using the same hotel since 1995.   The Beach is a family owned, sea-front 3-star, Egon Ronay recommended hotel.   There is a large car park, the staff are always helpful and friendly and the food is superb. Furthermore, the bridge lounge is ideal - light, spacious and comfortable.   Check out the Hotel at their website:

The weekend starts on Friday evening with a drinks reception, followed by dinner and a relaxed session of fun bridge for the Bob Berens Bowl (Holders: John Clift & Liz Stevens).

The pairs Championship for the Pat Thomson Trophy (Holders: Solange Graham & Scott Mitchell) is competed for over the Saturday morning and evening sessions. with Saturday afternoon being a bridge-free zone giving you the opportunity to explore Worthing.   Alternatively, weather permitting, we usually organise some gentle tennis doubles for the more energetically inclined.

The morning session is a qualifying heat and in the evening, after an early dinner, the Final of the Pat Thomson takes place while non-qualifiers compete for the Worthing Cup (Holders: Paul Brooks & Dudley Edwards)

The day traditionally finishes with much socialising in the bar, while the evening's results are finalised.

On Sunday, there is the Teams Championship for the Brambledown Cup. (Holders: Kay & Vic Long, Norma & Bill Macmillan).   The weekend finishes with tea & cakes and the prize-giving ceremony at around 5pm.

For April 2008, the cost of the weekend, including the bridge and all meals except Saturday lunch, will remain unchanged at £165 per person (discounted for non-playing guests).   For sea-view single rooms, there is a supplement of £10 per night. (no supplement for other single rooms).   Many of our guests like to stay extra night(s), either arriving for dinner on Thursday and/or staying for dinner Sunday evening and leaving Monday morning, and we have negotiated a special rate of £65 per person per extra night for dinner, bed & breakfast.
